Modern Warfare Rules

Establishing modern rules of warfare is essential to protect innocent lives, such as children, pregnant women, older people, and other civilians from getting caught in the crossfire of war. History has shown us that one mistake or miscalculation, one wrong step or decision on the part of one leader can cause an irrevocable change for the worse.

This is a matter of principle and of immediate concern to all of us and to future generations of our children. To help promote peace and the reduction of casualties during wartime and prevent wars from escalating into a full-scale nuclear exchange, OWOI offers for your consideration a set of proposed principles for discussion and international agreement upon a new code of conduct that will make it possible for us to achieve a safer and more secure world for all of us.

Ground Battles

OWOI believes that every country should think about creating certain battlefields where each country's forces can go to fight each other without guns, missiles or deadly and destructive weapons. The hope is that we can redefine the practice of war; putting the focus on bravery and fighting rather than allowing citizens including children, pregnant women and elderly people to lose their lives.

OWOI suggests that each country should discuss possible options such as designated zones for combat, with rules agreed upon, possibly hand-to-hand combat and primitive traditional weapons such as swords and axes with restrictions. We ask you to carry these ideas in conversation at home, at work, at spiritual meetings and public places to build international awareness and to have countries consider options such as these to change how they fight each other. Maybe this is a way forward to stopping countries from suffering due to escalations of differences.

Air-to-Air and Naval Battles

OWOI believes that nations should explore new rules for air-to-air and naval combat that prioritise the protection of civilians and the environment while limiting unnecessary destruction. Where military engagement cannot be avoided, nations should consider mutually agreed designated battle zones and restrictions on weapons that cause widespread environmental damage or threaten civilian populations. Rather than extending attacks across an entire nation, the objective should be to confine hostilities to agreed areas and reduce harm to people, infrastructure, and the natural world.

OWOI proposes that nations discuss clear conditions for ending hostilities, including a recognised surrender or ceasefire signal, such as raising a white flag, which must be respected in accordance with international humanitarian law. The number of personnel involved should never diminish the importance of protecting human life or the need for a clear path towards peace. OWOI believes that international dialogue, responsible conduct, and a shared commitment to peace and human progress are essential to protecting both humanity and the environment. OWOI will explore these topics in greater detail in the future, encouraging further discussion, constructive dialogue, and the development of practical proposals for a more peaceful and secure world.
